A few posts ago I presented some words of Joseph Levy, winner of a trip to the Main Event via online satellites.  Here are some further adventures.

It has been a while and first off, I certainly apologize for the delay. Things have been hectic lately professionally and personally, but I have returned to add another article to the Joseph Levy chronicle.

Travel and accommodations have been booked. I am actually staying at three different hotels during my stay: Hilton Grand Vacations – Strip, Rio All-Suite (possibly twice) and Hilton Las Vegas. I am arriving July 2nd with my parents for 4th of July weekend, and my girlfriend is traveling in the second weekend. I received word that Absolute Poker will be providing VIP Access to the Phil Hellmuth Suite and also hosting a party Monday night at the Wynn Tryst with all of the poker pros.

The tournament begins Monday, July 5th. Day One lasts four days (Mon – Thurs) and Day Two lasts another two days (Fri – Sat). That means that if I am still in the tournament after the first week, I will have played the equivalent of ~ 20 hours of poker over two days. Gotta get my game face on!

In preparation for the Main Event, I traveled to Southern Indiana (Louisville area) to play in my first casino tournament action. It was a $60 Buy-in with $10 Add-on. Around the seventh hand, I was dealt QQ. I put in a raise to make it $1200 chips in a $50/$100 pot. $1100 in chips were subsequently returned when the dealer pronounced that I need to announce a raise prior to depositing chips.

Seven players entered the flop, which came 10 9 3 different suits. Ends up 10 9 off suit flopped his two pair and took my bounty. Let’s just say I got off easy learning on $70 mistake rather than a $10,000 one! (although technically I’m not paying a cent to play

I ended up moving to the ring tables and finished a 5 hour session of $1/$2 up $300. I really wish the dealer hadn’t been such a prick, because I am confident I would have performed well and put up a good showing in the tournament.

Since my initial casino experience, I have been playing some SnGs in the $22-$24 range. I am currently up $140 over the past couple of weeks. I am about 10% through Harrington on Holdem Vol II. I really appreciate the content I have been reading about.

If you are planning to be in Vegas between the 2nd and the 12th, please let me know. I would love to meet some fellow PAers during what will soon become the opportunity of a lifetime!

I will plan to update a week before or when I arrive in Vegas. Please stay tuned for the next chapter!

Joseph
