Running around

Was planning to give it a rest for awhile, just lie back and relax at night as my daughter has run me ragged. Yea, believe that one and I’ll sell you some waterfront property in FL. Actually it’s been about 50-50. Hit the gym her first day down but spent the rest of the day lying by the pool. As stated in Twitter updates that’s the way to do it. Only problem was that I was so worn out from the workout I didn’t even have the want-to to read the book I had brought along. All I needed was a drink and a girl to bring a fresh one every half hour. Yesterday we made it to the pool but not the gym. Yes, Josie you can bitch. (And no you don’t get a link. When I told my daughter you would start wanting you to link you in her blog and give her hell if she didn’t I was informed, “That’s her problem”. Chip off the old block, ain’t she. Course I haven’t taught her to link yet anyway. But I think I’ll go with her philosophy for this post anyway.) Didn’t make the gym for two reasons or better, two variations of the same theme.
Hit the sack early the other night but my left leg went major league spastic on me for some reason. Unlike the usual events lately rather than a small annoyance there was a major problem. My foot, right below my ankle, felt like it had a hot coal sitting on it, about the size of a charcoal briquette. The pain in turn would build until it caused by entire calf to spasm driving me up a wall. Repeat ad nauseum. Unlike the other night I went through the entire line up of possible relief aids. Muscle relaxants, ALA foot cream, sleeping pills, pain killers. Unfortunately I was out of lorazipam. I don’t resort to it often but it was so bad Tue night that it would have been the first thing I reached for. As it was nothing worked until something, meds or just plain tiredness, knocked me out around 4-4:30. Got up around 10:30 which meant rushing around just to try and get to the pool before it got too crowded. Between the time factor and the fact that leg was still acting up I just decided to say to hell with the workout as it was leg day. As it was there was no need to rush. Whilst the sun was warm the air was on the cool side and it was a bit breezy so I guess most folks decided to wait a bit before showing up. Was able to get a couple chairs and an umbrella with no problem even though we were 20 min past opening. Usually the umbrellas are taken within 5-10 min. Chair I really don’t need got a damn good folder in the car but I need the umbrella. I’m white. Not fish belly white but white enough that I usually burn, blister type burn if not careful. If I avoid the burn I normally reach a light khaki. Anything other than that requires major effort. Two years ago I had a great tan thanks to my daughter. All day at the pool for a month made the effort worthwhile but even then I still need that umbrella in the early stages. Since the stroke it’s become a necessity. Don’t need sunstroke to add to the problems. Even the cub had problems yesterday. She was avoiding the water and said she was cold in it. So we decided to book an hour sooner than usual and she decided to hit the indoor pool until we did. I hate the indoor pool, too warm, so I alternated between sun and shade. Outside and started on the tan. Not a great start as I was short on sunscreen, only 8 and 85, so it was mainly shade. One spot of burn where I somehow missed a spot with the 85. Turned out to be a thoroughly rotten day when I got home as I went to put phone/music player and headset on charge and found that headset was missing. Somehow when packing up I pulled it off and set it on the chair and it must have slipped through the cracks. I called the Y and they say they’ll look for it but not having high hopes. Just what I need, a replacement expense. Have to dig out the Bluetooth headphones for the gym until the replacement gets here.
Today was shopping day. The cub needed new sneaks and some summer weight pj’s and I needed a refill on some vitamins. Wal-Mart has been pushing a sale on vitamins so we decided to hit them along with the library and the used book store. Also needed a hair cut. So does my daughter but she don’t believe me. She’s going for the Crystal Gale look. Not a smart idea for someone who loves the pool. Unfortunately I fell asleep early due to the night before and guess who was still awake when I woke up at 3, using on demand, catching up on all the anime she’s missed while with her mother. So while I’m up and out early for my haircut the barber was late, opens at 9 but wasn’t there until 9:50,and I’m not back until 10:30 and guess who is still racked out? I get her up and it takes her an hour to get ready, not to mention that she’s tired and miserable for another hour. More like a woman every day. So we get to the library and she fills out the application for a card while I print some stuff out and pick up a book then it’s on to Wal-Mart.
We get to the local Wal-Mart and I go in to my usual puzzlement over who laid out the parking lot. Has to be someone with Wal-Mart as I’ve seen the same layout at two other stores. For some godforsaken reason, on one side of the row they have 4 vertical handicapped spots yet across from them on the other side they have one horizontal one. Now if you go to Wal-Mart you know that, outside of K-Mart, they attract the biggest batch of gimps and old farts out there. Knowing that some asshole decided it would be a great idea to get rid of 3 handicap spots per parking row. At least 8 rows, 24 less handicap spots. Frikkin brilliant. Probably made the dumb shit a VP if not one already. Anyway I get lucky and find the one spot available otherwise it’s a major walk. Noon on a week day and the place is packed. Told you, old farts that don’t have to work. So we get in and I hit the vitamin section and load up. Then we go visit the sunscreen aisle and pick up a ton of that in various flavors. Have to go aerosol even if I didn’t want to. Can’t rub the lotions in. Doesn’t matter as this is one thing I willingly pay extra for. I hate the fact that it takes forever to get that stuff off your hands so it’s spray all the way. Stroke just gives me justification. Next it’s a visit to clothes to get those pj’s for my daughter. Like pulling teeth to even get her to look. The cub is even weirder than her old man. She hates to put on pajamas at night but after forced in to them she hates to get dressed in the morning. Go figure. So she says she can’t find any but there are some nice shorts she might be willing to wear with a t-shirt and btw, can she get a new bathing suit? So I say OK to the shorts and shirt combo, at least she hasn’t gone commando on me yet, and after we get them I say OK to the new bathing suit. What a change, from mopey to speedy. While she is looking at suits I head over to the watch counter. Hadn’t planned on it but figure I’ll see if I can find a cheap, waterproof watch. Used to be they called adult swim every hour for 5-10 minutes at the pool and as we packed up on the hour to leave every thing was good. This year they are only doing it on the odd hours and we usually leave at 4 so the story is, I don’t know what time it is when I had to go looking for her. Cheap watch, problem solved. Yea, right, but can’t say I ain’t trying at least. Actually found one she liked as she told me when she came over with the suit. Can’t say I reciprocated about the suit. I’m a father of a potential teen aged girl, I am all of a sudden a fan of those gay nineties suits with the caps and stockings. BTW, I also have a shotgun, shovel and an entire state park just down the road in case there are any sets of hormones in tennis shoes reading this and thinking of visiting in a couple years. Anyway we get the watch and the suit and head to the in store Subway for lunch. After lunch she reminds me I owe her a video game from my last poker win and so electronics is the next stop. Figure I might as well check for a new headset while there. I’m SOL, everything they have has cords, but she finds what she wants and has already written about it. Next her sneakers, then some groceries, on our own for dinner Fri night, and finally the cash register where I’m about 100% over what I planned to spend not counting the watch and game which we had to pay for separately at their respective dept. Damn sunscreen.
We get home and find it wasn’t such a great day. I remember the Wal-Mart gift card in my pocket. Nice time to think of that. Then we look at the watch. Knew we had to shorten the band but the way it’s designed it looks like we might not be able to shorten it enough. Then I find my daughter is more like a women then ever as she way underestimated her size. Shorts are tight and bathing suit doesn’t fit at all. Didn’t think you had to worry about the “skinny jeans” at 12. Actually my daughter does not take after me; she is fairly slim but where she got those sizes I’ll never know. By now it’s too late to run other errands as we would be hitting the rush hour so we call it a day. Besides my daughter doesn’t give a shit about anything but her new game anyway. Am not about to miss the gym tomorrow so was thinking about what to do about this other stuff when I saw the weather report. Seems it’s going to be a nice day again tomorrow, high 70’s, maybe 80, before the heat kicks in over the weekend. Looking at this we decided we’ll hit the gym but no pool tomorrow and do the pool over the weekend. Then we’ll head back to Wal-Mart and hit the other places we missed today. Sounds like a plan.
OK, for all you folks out there with neurothopic pain in your feet whether from diabetes or stroke or whatever. I’ve noticed that the ALA creams, really big in Europe, do work to some extent in taking some of the edge off the pain. Of course it didn’t do much the other night but that was some major pain. ALA, for those who don’t know, stands for Alpha Lipoic Acid. The doctor once recommended that I try it for my foot problems but I went the internal route, taking it in capsule form. It didn’t seem to work so I gave it up until I started trying it in the cream form which, as I said, has given some relief. I decided to try something else while at the vitamin counter today. The last time I took it I took the dosage stated on the bottle, 1 capsule, 200 mg. a day. This time I picked up 2 bottles. I figured I was going to overload, 4 capsules, 2 at breakfast and 2 at dinner, and see how that worked. After all I’m big as I’ve said and the recommended dosage of things is usually based on a 150 lb avg man. Also they aren’t talking a specific effect with a regular dose, they are talking standard supplement dose. So I’ll bang a 4 bagger for a couple weeks to see what goes. Before doing it I check the Net for any info and find that the studies done on it for this purpose had very good results and originally used intravenous infusions at 600 mg. Later they tried various dosages of capsule form and had results just as good. The main side effect happens to be nausea on the larger doses and they decided the 600 mg dose worked the best there too. Since I’m a tad larger than avg and I’m splitting the dose between 2 meals I figure I’ll stick with the 800 mg. I will keep anyone interested informed as to how it seems to work.
OK, HORSE game at Tilt about to start so time to draw to a close to take a whiz before it starts. Thanks for the listen.

No link??? Stingy baby, very stingy. Wanna bet on how soon Scoot gives me a link? I can be very persuasive – she doesn’t know who she’s dealing with.
I’ve kinda been skipping the exercise too, but as of tomorrow I’m back. I’ll give you a pass this time because I’m guilty too.
Oooo and when you return the clothes that don’t fit, get your CASH back and then pay for her new purchases with the gift card. Perfect!
